A new year of training opportunities begins at Kuhn Special Steel

Kuhn Special Steel has a long tradition of vocational training and academic education. Continue reading

The qualified training of young people gives them a good start in professional life and is very highly valued, as evidenced by our trainee-to-employee ratio of over 10%.

A total of ten apprentices, including several machine and plant system operators, metal machinists and one industrial manager, successfully completed their respective Kuhn Special Steel training programmes in the previous year. We would also like to congratulate two of these metal machinists on passing their Abitur (German university entrance) examination as part of their sandwich course at the vocational college Hückeswagen.

The new year at Radevormwald began, in terms of training opportunities and apprenticeships, on 15th August 2016. Demand to be part of the 2016 cohort has been high, echoing the approximately 350 applications for the previous year’s thirteen trainee vacancies. Two further professional training opportunities have been added to Kuhn’s steadily expanding apprenticeship programme this year. The first of these involves two apprenticeship places as foundry mechanics, while the other is for a trainee IT expert specialising in systems integration. The beginning of this year’s training course also culminated in August with the professional debut of five metal machinists, a specialist in operating system electronics, an industrial mechanic, an engineering technician, a machine/plant system operator and an industrial manager. The successful cooperation with the vocational college Hückeswagen is likewise to continue, thereby giving two new apprentices the opportunity to take advantage of this unique “sandwich course” approach designed to offer a general higher education qualification.

The start of the training course coincides with the beginning of the application period for the programme beginning in 2017. Kuhn Special Steel offers the following training places:

  • Industrial manager, with the possibility of following a sandwich course or obtaining the Abitur (1)
  • Metal machinist (4)
  • Metal machinist apprenticeship combined with studies to obtain a Bachelor of Engineering degree (1)
  • Metal machinist apprenticeship combined with studies to obtain the Abitur (1)
  • Foundry mechanic (2)
  • Machine/plant system operator specialising in foundry work (2)
  • Mechanical/electronic technician (1)

The profession of mechanical/electronic (also known as “mechatronics”) technician is a new training opportunity. Our apprentice mechatronics technicians will be trained, unlike there purely mechanical counterparts, to deal with the mechanical, electronic and IT-related aspects of industrial plant systems, thereby allowing us to offer more-versatile maintenance services.
