A new school year begins for trainees at Kuhn Special Steel

The select group of thirteen apprentices who began their training at Kuhn Special Steel on 1 September, thereby marking the first steps in their respective professional careers, were chosen from nearly five hundred applicants. Continue reading

The latest cohort includes metal machinists, specialists in electromechanical systems, foundry mechanics, operators of foundry machinery and systems and industrial management trainees. One apprentice will receive part of his training at the Hückeswagen vocational college, where successful completion of the corresponding four-year course fulfils Germany’s pre-university qualification requirements. Another of his fellow apprentices is to undergo dual training as a metal machinist and specialist in engineering management.

We are particularly pleased this year to be able to offer once again a training opportunity to a person who has found refuge in Germany. Our highly positive experience last year with an initial refugee from Ghana is now being followed by the incorporation of a young man from Syria, who has impressed our training staff and his fellow production employees alike with his open and engaging manner.

IMG_5083Each new school year at Kuhn Special Steel is traditionally marked by a joint team training session involving all 42 industrial and commercial trainees, whatever year they are in. This year’s event kicked off on an assault course in Düsseldorf, where team spirit and much trust-based cooperation between trainees tackling the course and their team-mates on the ground were required to ensure the safe conquest of the obstacles concerned, some of them up to 40 feet / 12 metres high. The same strong sense of team spirit also came into play on the following day, when participants had to build their own rafts from simple materials and race them on Lake Unterbach. We wish all our apprentices a great start to the new training year!

20170705_Header_LNDI_TdAThe end of one year tends to clash with the start of the next to some extent, as the autumn application process at Kuhn Special Steel is already well under way when the summer holidays begin. Indeed twelve training places have already been announced, in various specialist areas, for the 2018-2019 year. If you would like to know more about the training opportunities offered by Kuhn Special Steel, be sure to visit one of the numerous events held for school-leavers from the region. These echo our consistent focus on those interested, as reflected by our motto “Be yourself! With us.” Our current trainees come to these fairs to act as face-to-face job coaches for the school-leavers and other interested young people attending, and to provide direct and competent answers to their questions and queries. They are likewise able to talk about their own experiences and discuss suitable training opportunities with the potential candidates concerned.

Apart from personal advice-giving, the current trainees attending these job fairs for school-leavers can also give visitors a direct insight into working and business life at Kuhn Special Steel. Virtual-reality goggles let you dive (almost) straight into the picture and see what it’s like inside such places as our foundry, and decide whether you would like to work there.

If any of the above has sparked your curiosity, take a look at the 360° panoramic images and other information on our website at www.seidu-beiuns.de, and experience what the slogan “Be yourself! With us.” can actually mean by watching our apprentice video clip.
