SMM Hamburg – a key trade event for Kuhn Special Steel

Ship building and marine technology are particularly important sectors for Kuhn Special Steel. Continue reading

They place the highest demands on our components, as the items used must satisfy the most stringent safety requirements. The harsh environment of extreme climatic conditions, with frequent exposure to seawater, requires the use of extremely resistant materials. One of Kuhn Special Steel’s special strengths is precisely its ability to develop, produce and accurately machine the right materials for such difficult applications. This is reflected in, among other achievements, corresponding certification to the exacting standards of Achilles, Bureau Veritas, DNV, GL, ISO 9001:2008, Lloyds Register, Norsok and RINA; all of which are highly relevant to marine technology and engineering, and in our many years of successful cooperation with customers in this sector.

The SMM event in Hamburg, which takes place every two years, is the world’s leading trade fair for the maritime sector, and is therefore one of the most important industrial exhibitions for Kuhn Special Steel. Our sales team likewise attended this year’s event, and used the opportunity to contact more than 2,200 exhibitors from almost 70 different countries. The areas of application of our components can be found right across the sector. Kuhn Special Steel supplies, for example, sealing bushes for drive shafts, rudder-shaft casings and periscope and shaft tubes. We use mainly seawater-resistant duplex and austenitic materials for these purposes. We also supply engine components such as valve seat rings for use in the drive systems of ships and oil platforms, along with pump components, rotating mechanical seals and valve assemblies used to convey raw materials in the marine sector.
