New machine for measuring 3-D coordinates

Reliability based on quality and precision Continue reading

The consistent and ongoing expansion of our production capacity in the area of final machining is now bearing fruit, as our company handles more and more highly-complex finished machined components. This development comes with a growing need for measurement checks, which our existing systems are no longer able to carry out with the required efficiency. As part of our commitment to the future-proof and wide-ranging dimensional control required in this respect, we have decided to buy a new Wenzel LH1210 large-format, tactile coordinate-measuring machine. It is to be installed in an own specially built, climate-controlled room-in-room complex built by Nerling Systemräume GmbH. The tactile 3-D coordinate-measuring technology employed by the new machine uses both tactile and scanning techniques to create sets of three-dimensional measurements for the workpieces concerned. These are then used to detect dimensional deviations and determine shape- and position-related factors. The investment includes additional software and hardware components designed to evaluate the coordinates obtained and apply accurately calculated corrections in a systematic manner.

The benefit for our processes is enormous, as we will now be able to measure components far more accurately and reliably with production under way. Measurement applied at the beginning of production, along with communication of the resulting data, will make it easier to deal with errors and defects, while guaranteeing improved stability for the process. Early intervention will likewise be possible whenever corrections are required. This investment also supposes an optimisation of our quality assurance processes, while further improving our production expertise in a sustainable manner, leaving it fit to face the challenges of the future.

This all translates into clear benefits for our customers, who can now count on the highest accuracy of our measurements for workpieces weighing right up to 2.4 metric tons in total and, as all our testing processes take place at a single site, customers’ information and know-how are subject to even greater protection.

Measuring ranges:
X-axis = 1200 mm
Y-axis = 3000 mm
Z-axis = 1000 mm
