Health day for apprentices and day of training at Kuhn Special Steel

At the start of June, a health day specially designed for the needs of the 35 apprentices at the company took place at Kuhn Special Steel for the second time. Continue reading

The event, which was planned together with the health insurance provider, Barmer GEK, pursues the aim of showing young people early during the training period, how occupation and health can be combined with each other.

Due to the involvement of many different cooperation partners, a varied programme was able to be put together. After an introduction and welcome address by managing director Frank Lessing, Anja Kaiser, a qualified nutritional scientist, provided information about “healthy eating”. Yet what was presented as theory was then directly put into practice, with the participants cooking that day’s lunch. In doing so the apprentices were able to see for themselves how, even with not much time, a substantial and balanced meal could be prepared for the lunch break. Physical fitness was not neglected either. The resident fitness studio, life-ness, took the apprentices through some circuit training, accompanied by measurements and health tips by the local chemists, Bergische Apotheke. Besides nutrition and physical fitness, people’s mental attitude was not forgotten either. Meike Ludwigs from the Kalapa Leadership Academy in Bergisch Gladbach gave an introduction into the practice of mindfulness, a method of meditation that promotes presence and the ability to concentrate and helps to relieve stress. All in all an interesting day during which our apprentices were able to gain many new impressions and experiences, which will be useful to them time and again not only during their training, but hopefully throughout their whole professional career.

The opportunity to get to know Kuhn Special Steel better as a potential apprenticeship partner was provided to interested pupils and parents just two weeks later at the “Day of training”. Over 30 companies from the region came together at the Wartburghaus in Radevormwald to advise visitors about their respective apprenticeship Giessereikleidungprogrammes. At the Kuhn Special Steel booth, personnel officer, Selina Hofmeister, and the current apprentices were on hand to answer all questions about the training opportunities at Kuhn Special Steel. Those who wanted to take a closer look were also able to visit the Kuhn Special Steel training centre on this day. Here, training manager, Andreas Döbler, along with more apprentices informed the visitors how training is structured at Kuhn Special Steel. In the training centre covering over 600 m², the pupils were able to gain a good impression and also try out one or two things. For instance, they were given the opportunity to try on a real set of foundry gear.
