The outlook for 2017

We are regarding the new year of 2017 with moderate optimism. Continue reading

Will the slight recovery of our sector in Europe and China, which is somewhat more pronounced in the United States, lead to more entries for our order books? Or will renewed terrorist fears, political uncertainty and the threat of economic crises like the one in Italy drive the world’s industrial-machine and plant-system customers away from further investment?

After the clearly disappointing results of 2016, which unfortunately failed to fulfil our expectations, we are hoping that demand in our sector will catch up over the coming twelve months. In any case, we, as a medium-sized company, have to be prepared to act flexibly and to build on our existing strengths. These lie in our performance as a reliable supplier of top-quality, ready-machined parts and subassemblies made of stainless steel – of “high performance key components”. This often involves us bumping up against the limits of what can be done, but we then work together with the customer to ratchet those limits up by another click. Our customers demand maximum precision in production and full compliance with material-characteristic and performance specifications – a mission which we reliably accomplish.

We have been noticing a significant shift in customer requirements, with less and less demand for simple-to-produce stainless-steel components based on centrifugal castings, that we naturally still need to make use of our production capacity. There is at the same time a growing demand for high-precision components that require the application of cutting-edge technology and a “know why” approach on the part of our employees.

Our route map for 2017 is therefore clear:  we must build on our expertise in the production of heavy-duty key components, while simultaneously improving our competitiveness in the area of standard stainless-steel products based on centrifugal castings.

All our efforts in this respect are focussed on our customers’ needs, which we – and the entire workforce at Kuhn Special Steel – intend to continue to fulfil in 2017 and for many years to come.
