Our 2017 calendar – Co-Creation at its best!

Cooperation between the “KK-Fotoclub”, an in-house photographic society of Kuhn Special Steel, and artist Cindy Kuhn-Chuang has resulted in this year’s very special calendar. Continue reading

The 2017 calendar shows, in twelve striking scenarios, the many different facets of work at Kuhn Special Steel. The series of pictures concentrates on people, rather than on the cool aesthetics of technology, to show their full concentration and commitment, and also their joy and exuberance.

Cindy-KuhnEven as a five-year old child living in Taipei, the world of painting was opened up to Cindy Kuhn-Chuang. Her grandfather, who used delicate brush strokes to put calligraphic characters to paper, kindled her fascination. Full of enthusiasm, she began back then to produce her first ink drawings. After finishing school she studied literature and Chinese ink drawing. When she came to Germany 22 years ago, she familiarised herself with western painting techniques at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier. From this she developed her own unique style.

The KK-Fotoclub association was set up in 2013 by a group of Kuhn employees with a shared passion for photography. The group organises and attends discussion workshops on various aspects of photography, and undertakes joint “photographic excursions”. They are naturally always on the lookout for a good snapshot around the Kuhn Special Steel site.

Cindy Kuhn-Chuang lets her amateur counterparts use a room in her photographic studio. Their joint, mutual interest in the photographer’s art has proved most inspiring, and has led to the production of this wall calendar. Our onsite camera enthusiasts have recorded their day-to-day working lives with great commitment as inspiration for this twelve-part series of images.

Christian Laudenberg, Eugen Hanczur, Frank Schäfer, Heinz Homburg, Lutz Meier, Oliver Sieber, Peter Mönsters, Thomas Weber, Siegfried Augustin and Dirk Breuer shared out the company’s various areas and departments between them. The result was no fewer than fifty impressive shots, from which Cindy Kuhn-Chuang has selected one each for the twelve months of the calendar. This photographic encounter with a renowned artist has proved to be a source of pride for our own passionate camera enthusiasts. She has used various techniques, such as watercolour, acrylic paint applied with a brush and spatula, Indian ink and felt pens, to add an artistic touch to the group’s images, while bringing to life their day-to-day tasks with collages on canvas and paint applied to hand-pressed or rice paper. The result is twelve fascinating images that wait to be discovered with each passing month. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to our in-house artists for this wonderful piece of co-creation.
